Walden

Tomorrow (June 22nd) BCMG will perform Heiner Goebbels’ Walden at MAC Birmingham. An exciting concert in it’s own right of course, but it is particularly exciting for Thumb fans as ex-bassist Sebastiano Dessanay will be playing with BCMG during the concert. Many best wishes to Seb – further details on the BCMG website.

Songbook Part 1

Thumb performed the Songbook Book Project 2012 (Birmingham leg) on Monday, working with Mary Wiegold and Conservatoire singers once again. Don’t miss the second performance in The Forge, Camden on October 10th.

Sounds New, Farewell and Welcome

Our debut at Sounds New Festival last month was a great success where we played three past pieces: Stephen Willey, Treehouse; Sebastiano Dessanay, Keep Your Feet Up While I Speak, and Andy Ingamells, Terry’s Missus: I want a divorce. We also introduced Ed Bennett, My Broken Machines to our repertoire and a video of our performance are available on our YouTube channel.

We also say farewell to Vicky Strudwick and Sam Hawksley who are moving on. Both have performed exciting concerts with us in recent years and we wish them well for the future. In place we welcome Ruth Woolley (viola) and we welcome back Ben Graves (clarinet), who has been involved in Thumb since it’s inaugural concert in some form or other. In addition, Akvilė Šmotavičiūtė is joining us at the piano as a brand new member. We’re all very much looking forward to working with the three of them in the coming season.

Many best wishes and thanks to Sam and Vicky.
